The Master of Education (MEd) program at IGNOU is designed to build leadership, research, and policy-making skills in the education sector. It’s a 2-year postgraduate degree aligned with NCTE norms and suitable for those holding a BEd with at least 55% marks. Reserved category students (SC/ST/OBC/PwD) can avail 35% fee discounts and 5% mark relaxation. The curriculum includes philosophy of education, curriculum design, teacher education, educational research, and a dissertation. The total program fee is ₹40,000, and January 2026 admissions are expected to begin from November 25, 2025. Students must apply via online mode, and IGNOU provides both printed and e-materials for self-learning. The course can be completed in up to 4 years.

IGNOU MEd Admission 2026–27 is designed for trained teachers seeking advanced skills in curriculum planning, educational leadership, classroom evaluation, and schooling systems. The programme generally spans 2 years, but admission requires passing the IGNOU MEd Entrance Test and holding a recognized BEd degree with required teaching experience. Coursework includes philosophy of education, psychology of learning, educational technology, research methodology, and internship-based practice. IGNOU offers study materials in online and printed formats. Semester assignments and project work are essential parts of evaluation. Notice: IGNOU currently does not offer a MED program as per UGC direction that MED should be offered in regular/on campus mode and not in distance mode. 

IGNOU MEd Program Guide

Master of Education is a 2-year course which is divided into 4 semesters. It is offered at undergraduate level in open and distance learning mode. Students opting for the MED program will gain skill and knowledge of teaching methods, education and curriculum. It is the best course for individuals who want to be in the teaching line and work in schools, universities and educational institutions. Since the program is offered in distance mode, it is highly preferred by working professionals and individuals who cannot attend regular classes. The program is approved by NCTE and has an affordable course fee of INR 10,000 per year. 

Note: IGNOU is not offering a MED program for the current academic session. 

Eligibility Criteria For IGNOU MEd Admission

Students who want to pursue the MED program offered for 2 years at indira gandhi national open university must have the following qualifications. Firstly, students must have a bachelor of education degree from a reputed university. Students must have scored a minimum 50% mark(45% for reserved category) in the qualifying examination. Applicants must have a two year teaching experience in a recognized school or university after completing the BED program.

IGNOU does not have an upper age limit for MED admission, so individuals of all age groups can apply. Selection of the eligible applicants will be based on an entrance test conducted by the university.  The main medium of instruction for the MED program is English. However students have the option to write their assignment, dissertation or term end examination in hindi. 

IGNOU MEd Admission Course Fee

Indira Gandhi National Open University MED course fee is much lower than other regular based classroom education.  The regular course fee of the MED program will be much higher than the distance course.  IGNOU MED admission fees is INR 10,000 per year, including registration fee and development fee as applicable. Since IGNOU is not providing a MED program presently, students are advised to check the official website for detailed information.

IGNOU MEd Admission Process 2026-27

IGNOU MEd admission process will start soon for the January 2026-27 academic session. IGNOU MED application process will be held in online mode through the IGNOU SAMARTH portal. Follow the steps given below to fill out the application form. 

• Step 1: Visit IGNOU samarth portal- www.ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in. 
• Step 2: New applicants can register with email ID and phone number.
• Step 3: Create username and password for login purposes.
• Step 4: OTP will be mailed or sms for verification.
• Step 5: Login and start filling the admission form. 
• Step 6: Enter all personal and educational details carefully.
• Step 7: Upload valid documents, including scanned signature and photograph. 
• Step 8: Preview the data and confirm all the details.
• Step 9: Next make fee payment online through net banking, credit card or debit card. 
• Step 10: Payment confirmation mail will be sent through mail and sms.
• Step 11: Press the next button to submit the form.
• Step 12: Ensure to download and print out duly filled application forms for future reference. 

Documents Required For IGNOU MEd Admission

Participants have to upload the following document after scanning them in under 100KB size and in JPG format.

• 10th and 12th marksheet and certificate.
• bachelor certificate.
• Scan signature and photograph.
• Caste or category certificate
• Aadhaar card, pancard or voter ID for identification.
• Experience certificate. 

IGNOU MEd Study Material

Students have the provision of self learning study material in both printed and digitized form. IGNOU encourages students to opt for soft copy study material at the ime of admission by offering 15% program fee concession. However, students who opt for soft copy are not provided with printed materials. Students have access to digitized study material through IGNOU E-gyankosh. Where all the courses content, including recorded lectures, and SLM are available for all without any cost.

• Step 2: Click on the IGNOU SLM option.
• Step 3: Select school of education.
• Step 4: Click on level and select the master program.
• Step 5: Click on current and choose the master of education program.
• Step 6: Click on compulsory courses or specialized areas in education.
• Step 7: Select block 1 or 2 as per choice.
• Step 8: Click on desired unit.
• Step 9: Click on the VIEW/OPEN button to download or access the study material.
