IGNOU Law Admission 2026 includes several certificate and diploma courses for students interested in learning legal basics without joining a full-time law college. IGNOU offers programs like Certificate in Human Rights, Cyber Law, Consumer Protection, and Labour Laws. Most law courses require 10+2 or a graduation degree, depending on the level. Course duration ranges between 6 months and 1 year, and fees are normally ₹2,000–₹8,000, with up to 40% fee relaxation for SC/ST/OBC applicants. IGNOU provides printed books and digital law study materials for easy self-learning. Admission is completely online, and students don’t need to appear for an entrance test. The latest update confirms that the IGNOU Admission Last Date is 31 January 2025, so applicants should register soon.

IGNOU Law Admission 2026 offers short legal programs such as Human Rights, Cyber Law, Consumer Protection, Labour Laws, and Paralegal Practice, making it suitable for students seeking basic legal knowledge without full-time law college. Courses run for 6 months to 1 year, with fees between ₹2,000–₹8,000 and up to 40% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC students. Eligibility varies: 10+2 is enough for certificate courses, while graduation is required for PG Diplomas. There is no entrance exam, and admission is completed online before 31 January 2025.

IGNOU Law Course Details

Indira Gandhi National Open University offers a variety of Law programmes to provide flexible and accessible legal education through distance learning mode. These programmes are designed for students who want to pursue law without taking regular classes. IGNOU law courses cover core subjects like constitutional law, criminal law, civil law, and legal research. IGNOU was established in 1985 by an Act of the Indian Parliament to provide accessible, flexible and affordable education to all. This university aims to promote distance and open learning for students who can not attend regular classes due to work,location, finance or other commitments. 

IGNOU Law Courses  

IGNOU offers various law courses at PG Diploma, Diploma and Certificate level. Here is the list of Law courses provided by IGNOU. 

  • PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights (PGDIPR)
  • PG Diploma in Criminal Justice (PGDCJ)
  • PG Certificate in Patent Practice (PGCPP)
  • Diploma in Paralegal Practice (DIPP)
  • Certificate in Consumer Protection (CCP) 
  • Certificate in Co- operation, Co- operative Law & Business Laws (CCLBL)
  • Certificate in Human Rights (CHR)

Eligibility Criteria For IGNOU Law Admission

IGNOU provides numerous Law courses in diploma, PG diploma and certificate level. The eligibility criteria for law courses totally depend on the level and the specialization of courses. However, for all Law courses the selection criteria is only based on the merit score without any entrance exams. 

Here are the qualification requirements for various Law programmes offered by IGNOU: 

  • PG Diploma in Intellectual Property Rights (PGDIPR)

Candidates need to complete their graduation or equivalent in any discipline from any UGC approved university. 

  • Diploma in Paralegal Practice (DIPP)

For pursuing the DIPP programme form IGNOU candidates need to have completed their higher secondary education (10+2) from a certified board. 

  • Certificate in Consumer Protection (CCP) 

To be eligible for Certificate in Consumer Protection programme candidates must pass 10+2 or BPP form IGNOU. 

Note: IGNOU currently does not offer a full-time LLB programme. 

IGNOU Law Admission Fees Structure

Indira Gandhi National Open University offers several courses and the fee range may vary depending on the level/ specialisation of the course. The PG diploma law courses generally range between INR 10,200 to INR 10,800.  The Diploma courses start from INR 8,400 to INR 10,000 and the Certificate programmes fee is INR 2,100 to INR 8,400. 

Candidates also need to pay some additional charges including a development fee of INR 200 and an examination fee of INR 200. A non- refundable one time registration fee of INR 300 is also mandatory to pay at the time of application process.  

IGNOU Law Admission Process 2026

IGNOU Law admission process will begin soon for the January 2026 academic session. Interested candidates can apply for any law programmes in the academic year 2026- 27. It is advisable to fill out the application form before the due date and pay the admission fee. IGNOU takes admission for law programmes on the basis of merit score. 

Here is the detailed process of how to apply for the IGNOU Law courses. 

  • Step 1: Visit the official IGNOU admission website (www.ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in/index.php/registration/user/register) 
  • Step 2: Registration: Register yourself at the portal by clicking on “New Registration” and enter your name, email ID,phone number and password to create an account. 
  • Step 3: Log In: Log in at the portal using your user name and password. 
  • Step 4: Select your desired programme and specialization form the mentioned list. 
  • Step 5: Fill Application Form: Complete the application form by filling all required details like personal and educational details. 
  • Step 6: Documentation: Submit the scanned copy of all mandatory documents like scanned signature, certificates, photos etc. 
  • Step 7: Submission: Check all entered documents and details carefully before submitting the form. After reviewing, click on “Submit” for further processing. 
  • Step 8: Fee Payment: Pay the application fee of INR 300 online using a given method of payment like UPI, Net Banking, Credit/ Debit Card. 
  • Step 9: Confirmation: After verifying your documents and details you will receive a confirmation email with your enrollment number.

Indira Gandhi National Open University provides comprehensive Law study materials for its certificate, diploma, and PG diploma programmes. The university offers materials in both printed and digital formats.  These materials help students to understand legal concepts easily. 

  • Printed Study Materials: After completion of admission, IGNOU sends printed books to its enrolled students by speed post to their registered address. These printed materials are written in simple language with examples and case studies.
  • Digital Study Materials:  Students can also access the study materials online through the eGyanKosh website, e-Content App, or Samarth Portal.
